Southern California Lawyer Damien Miranda | Attorney Profile

Southern California Employment Attorney Damien J. Miranda has always sought to fight injustice wherever and whenever he could. From humble beginnings, he witnessed bullies physically intimidate others on the streets of his neighborhood. While some kids chose to retaliate against perceived weaker children, he fought the bullies and took his punches while shielding others. He witnessed sexual harassment at school and the workplace and vowed to take a stand to protect female employees. Mr. Miranda developed an interest in law while attending junior college at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California. At Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, he was exposed to the teachings of the Jesuit religious order. The Jesuit educational system blended the spiritual roles of the Church with the secular professions of doctors, lawyers, astronomers, philosophers, psychologists and the like. He studied the Ancient Near East, Greek and Roman civilizations, including their focus on the arts such as: philosophy, religion, logic, drama, tragedy, art and history, and legal teachings throughout the Renaissance Era and beyond. His studies led him to the core belief that to be healthy, one had to care for the whole person: “body, mind, and soul.” His exposure to the Jesuit teachings enhanced his calling to serve his fellow man and fight injustice for those who could not defend themselves. During his time at Loyola, he worked for the United States Air Force. While he was exposed to the world of military technology and advanced business practices, he also witnessed widespread workplace discrimination. True to his spirit, he sought to build a class action of disenfranchised Hispanic Air Force employees. He ultimately settled his own Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) discrimination claim in 1997. After settling his own employment case, he was asked by his former supervisor for help on a Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) claim which resulted in a constructive termination. After developing the case, he helped his former supervisor successfully obtain a Writ of Mandate against the State of California despite the fact the United States Air Force Judge Advocate General (JAG) Office and the California Attorney General’s Office strongly opposed the claims. Damien J. Miranda received his law degree from The University of La Verne College of Law. Within six months of becoming an attorney, he won his first jury trial while representing an elderly female employee who was terminated from her employment because she took a medical leave of absence to treat her cancer. Since then, he has continued to be a compassionate advocate for employee rights, and has successfully represented individuals and groups of employees at mediation, arbitration, and at trial. In January of 2015, Mr. Miranda obtained a 1.5 million ($1,500,000.00) dollar settlement for a female city employee who was the victim of sexual harassment. In August of 2017, Mr. Miranda obtained a Fifteen Million ($15,544,000.00) dollar verdict for a single mother who was repeatedly raped at work. Southern California Employment Law Attorney Damien Miranda represents individuals and families in a wide range of employment law matters involving sexual harassment, workers compensation, wrongful termination, wage and hour violations, meal and break time violations, workplace discrimination, employer retaliation, and whistleblower protection.
